Department of Economics LOGO DESIGN CONTEST


The Department of Economics (DE), College of Economics and Management, UPLB invites you to create its logo, a definitive symbol of the institution as it envisions itself to remain at the forefront of Economics instruction, research and training with the aim of supporting national goals and objectives.

Mechanics
  1. Concept
    1. The logo must be MODERN yet ELEGANT. MODERN, communicating fresh ideas and radical innovations to address past, present and future economic concerns in the academe, industry, government and society, both locally and globally. ELEGANT, in keeping with the role and identity of the department as a prime academic institution geared towards instruction, research and extension.     2. It must contain the department initials "DE" and no other word(s). The only other group of words which may optionally be included in the logo is the department name "Department of Economics".
    3. The logo must be appropriate for (but not limited to) department correspondence (i.e. letterheads, envelopes, etc.), presentation materials, promotional materials and/or items, and publications.
  2. Submission Specifications
    1. Eligibility. Each contestant can submit only one (1) entry. A contestant may be an individual or group of people. The contestant must be a duly registered student of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (1st Semester, AY 2004-2005). The contest is open to all students, CEM or non-CEM. A valid proof of registration may be required from the contestant to join and/or claim the prize.
    2. Dimensions. The entry to be submitted must be mounted/printed/drawn on the white side of a ¼ illustration board. For symmetric/square/round designs, the logo should have the dimensions 7.5" x 7.5". For asymmetric/rectangular/elliptical designs, the logo should have the dimensions 7.5" x 10" for portrait orientation and 10" x 7.5" for landscape orientation.
    3. Colors. The design can only have a maximum of three (3) colors (excluding BLACK and WHITE). Mandatory colors: the logo must have the two (2) colors BLUE and GREEN. BLUE as the department color must be prominent in the design.
    4. Concept. The logo must be accompanied by an explanation of the design in not more than 400 words, typewritten on an 8½" x 11" white paper, together with the full name, course/college, contact number(s) and email address of the contestant.
    5. Criteria. The logo will be judged according to the following criteria:
      - use of color and overall design;
      - relevance to the department image and vision;
      - appropriateness of the logo for (but not limited to) department correspondence (i.e. letterheads, envelopes, etc.), presentation materials, promotional materials and/or items, and publications;
      - clarity and distinction of the logo and its design even when reproduced in small sizes; and
      - compliance to mechanics.
    6. Prize. There will only be one (1) winner for the contest. The winner will receive PHP 2,000.00 in cash.
    7. Dates. Deadline for submission of entries is on Tuesday, 27 July 2004, 5:00 pm. Entries will be received at the DE Rm 1. Look for Romel Saplaco and/or Dominick Mariano. The winning entry will be announced and the prize will be awarded on Friday, 30 July 2004 during the celebration of the CEM Foundation Day.
