Industries share their testing needs

Fifteen stakeholders from the pulp and paper industry
participated in the focus group discussions on testing needs. With
them are FPRDI Director Florence P. Soriano (6th from left) and
key FPRDI staff.
What are the analytical testing needs of the forest
products-based and allied industries and how capable are the DOST’s
regional laboratories and the FPRDI to meet them?
Key FPRDI staff met with sector leaders last March 14-15 in Makati
City to find out.
Thirty-eight stakeholders from three industry groups (12 furniture,
11 construction and builders’ woodworks and 15 pulp and paper) joined
in focus group discussions (FGD) that assessed their sector’s present
and future demand for testing services. Participants represented
producers, industry groups, regulatory agencies and the academe.
FPRDI’s Dr. Dwight A. Eusebio, activity-in-charge, says, “The FGD
allowed us to better understand our clients’ testing requirements
vis-à-vis our capabilities, and so now the DOST is in a better
position to upgrade its service and testing laboratories in the
regions and in its research agencies like the FPRDI.”
The FGD forms part of a project being conducted by the Philippine
Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development (PCIERD).
