Albay handicraft-makers get help
from FPRDI

The Del Rosario Handicraft Producers Association (DELROHAPA) in
Libon, Albay will soon be able to dry their raw materials and products
using the FPRDI handicraft dryer, thanks to a decision they made
after visiting the Institute last March 18.
During the visit, 18 members accompanied by staff from Region V’s
Department of Trade and Industry toured FPRDI laboratories and listened
to lectures (above) about indigenous raw materials for handicrafts,
technical services open for them, and how to protect and preserve
their raw materials using heat and chemical treatment.
According to FPRDI’s Engr. Ruben A. Zamora who made a site assessment
in Libon, the FPRDI dryer will enable the DELROHAPA members to properly
dry their materials even during the rainy season.
Comprising of 31 active members (28 of whom are women), the association
produces bags, trays, hampers, floor mats and placemats from seagrass,
bangkuan, bacbac and abaca fiber. These products are usually sold
to the Community Crafts Association of the Philippines and traders
from Manila and Laguna. #
