For. Ella presents research paper in an
international forestry workshop
FPRDI’s Forester Arsenio B. Ella, Scientist III was among the 72
participants from 16 countries across Europe, North America and
Asia to the International Seminar-Workshop on Gender and Forestry
held in Umea, Sweden on 17-22 June 2006.
Ella gained insights on current issues and research findings on
the visibility of women and their involvement in forestry, gender
structures in forest ownerships, organizations and gender in perception
of forests. He presented orally his working paper “Sustainable Harvesting
of Non-Timber Forest Products: The Role of Gender in the Philippines”
during the scientific sessions. Meanwhile, his poster was adjudged
the most symbolic among the 26 entries in the exhibit. The organizing
committee requested him to donate it for display at the Swedish
University of Agriculture and Sciences - Faculty of Forest Sciences’
lobby.
The same university organized the said seminar in cooperation with
the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International
Union of Forestry Research Organization (IUFRO). For. Ella was grateful
to the organizers for sponsoring his attendance to this gathering.
